David Boyles is a teacher/activist who teaches writing at Arizona State University and is active in the
Democratic Party and a variety of progressive causes, especially those around reproductive justice and
LGBTQ+ rights. As a past board member of NARAL Pro-Choice Arizona, he was instrumental in the launch of the Abortion Fund of Arizona, which provides financial support to help patients access abortion
services. A passionate advocate for voting rights, he led efforts to register voters in Legislative Distric 18 during the 2018 election cycle and contributed to that district’s historic string of Democratic victories. He
has also been active in organizing for the nationally known protest group Handmaids Resistance Phoenix
and as a Safe Space Trainer for GLSEN Phoenix, he leads trainings for local K-12 educators on creating
LGBTQ+-inclusive spaces. More recently, he has also co-founded Drag Story Hour --Arizona, which
presents LGBTQ+-inclusive storytime events for all-ages audiences around the state. His writing classes
at ASU are famous for their engagement with the social and political world beyond the classroom, and he
also serves as the faculty advisor for the student groups Planned Parenthood Generation Action at ASU
and the Arizona Students’ Association. As Research Coordinator at WHRPG, he recruits talented
graduate students and early career scholars working in our focus areas and guides them through the
creation of our in-depth white papers which are changing the public conversation on these critical issues.
